Private Capital Suite modernization

Modernizing FIS™ Private Capital Suite — and the data around it.

Ardenwell helps fund managers and administrators implement Private Capital Suite (formerly Investran™) well, move their history into it cleanly, and bring its data — with the rest of the firm’s data — into one governed platform that people, reports and AI can rely on.

  • Consulting on Investran and Private Capital Suite since 2015
  • Specialist knowledge of Investran data and its data model
  • Independent of FIS

Why now

FIS has re-engineered Private Capital Suite as cloud-native SaaS and is integrating it with its Investor Services Suite — widening the conversation from accounting and reporting to a front-to-back operating model.

A move to SaaS changes how data leaves the platform, how custom reports are built and how other systems connect. It is also the natural moment to settle the question that matters most for AI: where the firm’s data lives, how it is governed, and how people and tools reach it.

Workstreams

Three workstreams, one data model.

Most engagements begin in one workstream and touch the others. Each can be engaged on its own, and each ends in deliverables your team keeps.

Implementation & design

Private Capital Suite configured around how your funds, entities, vehicles and investors are actually structured — so accounting, allocations and reporting work as intended from the first close.

What we do

  • Structure design for funds, legal entities, feeder and parallel vehicles, and investors
  • Chart of accounts, allocation and transaction-type design
  • Workflow, security role and approval design
  • Reporting requirements captured before configuration, not after

Deliverables

  • Implementation design document
  • Configuration decision log
  • Data-mapping specification
  • Reporting inventory and acceptance criteria

Migration & reporting remediation

A move from Investran, or from another platform, with history intact, balances proven, and a reporting estate simpler than the one you started with.

What we do

  • Conversion of funds, investors, commitments, transactions and history
  • Reconciliation of balances, capital accounts and performance between old and new
  • Rebuilding or remediating SSRS (SQL Server™ Reporting Services) reports, statements and extracts
  • Rationalizing custom reports and the spreadsheets that grew up around them

Deliverables

  • Migration plan and cut-over runbook
  • Repeatable conversion scripts and templates
  • Reconciliation packs with signed-off tie-outs
  • A report inventory — keep, rebuild or retire — and the rebuilt reports

Data, cloud & integration modernization

Private Capital Suite data brought into Snowflake™ — or Databricks™ or another modern platform where that suits the firm better — and organized as a single, governed source for reporting, analysis and AI.

What we do

  • Pipelines from Private Capital Suite into Snowflake, refreshed on a schedule you set
  • A logical data model and semantic layer in the firm’s own language — funds, investors, commitments, capital accounts
  • Row- and column-level security mapped to your roles, so each person and tool sees only what it should
  • Data from your other systems integrated with Private Capital Suite data on the same platform

Deliverables

  • Target architecture and logical data model
  • Production pipelines with data-quality checks
  • Consumption objects — views, table functions and stored procedures — for other systems
  • APIs, visualizations and AI workflows built on the governed data

After go-live

Ongoing support — report management and enhancement as your funds, entities and investor reporting requirements evolve, from a single report to the full quarterly cycle.

The core pipeline

One governed home for the firm’s data.

The center of most modernization work is a simple idea: put Private Capital Suite data, and the data around it, in one managed place — then let every report, tool and AI workflow draw from it.

Sources

  • Private Capital Suite
  • General ledger
  • Fund administrator files
  • CRM and fundraising
  • Portfolio company reporting
  • Market and banking data

Snowflake

  • Logical data model
  • Semantic layer
  • Row- and column-level security
  • History and audit trail
  • Data-quality checks

Consumers

  • Investor and management reporting
  • Visualization and BI tools
  • Snowflake Cortex AI analysis
  • Agents for long-running analyses
  • APIs for other systems
  • Excel and ad-hoc analysis

What becomes possible

Built once, used everywhere.

With the data modeled and secured in one place, the same foundation serves reporting, analysis and AI — and every output can be traced back to its source.

Questions in plain language

Finance and investment teams ask questions of governed data with Snowflake Cortex, and get answers that respect each person’s permissions.

Long-running analyses

Agents that work through quarter-end variance reviews, pacing scenarios or covenant checks across every fund, and present their findings for review.

Analyses on request

An API and tools that let your portal, CRM or workflow systems trigger an analysis and receive the result.

One set of numbers

IRR, multiples and cash-flow pacing calculated once, from one model, and reused in every report and dashboard.

Data quality, continuously

Automated checks between Private Capital Suite, the general ledger and the administrator, with each exception routed to an owner.

Documents into data

Capital notices and portfolio company reports extracted for review, then joined to fund and investor data on the same platform.

Context

The systems around it, and who decides.

Private Capital Suite rarely stands alone. We design the boundaries — which system owns each piece of data, how it moves, and how differences are resolved — and the people who own those decisions sign off.

Adjacent systems

  • General ledger and consolidation
  • Fund administrator
  • FIS Investor Services Suite
  • Investor portal and document delivery
  • CRM and fundraising
  • Portfolio monitoring and valuation
  • Treasury and banking
  • Data warehouse and BI tools
  • Excel models

Our role

Where we fit — and where we don’t.

Ardenwell recommends, designs and builds. Your team decides and signs off, and the vendors keep their responsibilities.

What Ardenwell brings

  • Consulting on Investran since 2015 — especially its data and its data model, and how they behave in practice
  • Snowflake data engineering: modeling, security, consumption objects and APIs
  • Applied AI with review, ownership and audit trails designed in — set out in our control blueprint
  • Independence — we work for the firm, not for a vendor

What Ardenwell does not replace

  • FIS — licensing, hosting, product support, upgrades and the product roadmap stay with FIS
  • Your fund administrator, auditors, legal counsel and tax advisers
  • Your accounting team’s judgment and sign-off
  • Your data platform vendor’s contract and support

Ardenwell is an independent consultancy. We are not affiliated with, partnered with or certified by FIS, and nothing on this page is offered on FIS’s behalf.
